Second Call for Proposals for The LOOP Zurich Platform Projects
The LOOP Zurich Platform Projects provide funding to further develop the LOOP Zurich BioMedical Informatics Platform (LOOP BMIP). The LOOP BMIP brings together clinical data from Zurich’s four university hospitals and will be accessible to researchers from LOOP Zurich partner institutions starting Q3/2026.
Platform Projects enhance the LOOP BMIP by incorporating novel and supplemental data types (e.g. omics, imaging, or quasi-real-time data) and/or by developing advanced analysis tools (e.g. AI-based). The goal is to make data from different sources interoperable and reusable (in line with FAIR/SPHN standards), enabling new insights into disease progression and improved diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
Eligible applicants are groups of typically 2–4 researchers (single-group applications are also eligible) with complementary expertise in biomedicine, clinical research, and data science/engineering. PIs and Co-PIs must be employed at a LOOP Zurich partner institution (ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, University Hospital Zurich, Balgrist, University Children’s Hospital Zurich, University Hospital of Psychiatry Zurich). External collaborations are possible if the required expertise is unavailable locally (max. 20% of funds).
The LOOP Platform Projects are supported with a maximum of CHF 500,000, with a duration of 2–3 years. Funding covers personnel, consumables, and selected infrastructure costs (PI/Co-PI salaries are excluded).
