The LOOP Zurich at Scientifica 2023
Scientifica 2023, Switzerland’s largest science festival, offered visitors a remarkable opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of research and experience the latest advances. Two projects from The LOOP Zurich presented their work, and the biomedical informatics platform The LOOP Zurich BMIP was one of the topics of a high-profile panel discussion.

StimuLOOP – Personalized Rehabilitation of Tomorrow
StimuLOOP’s presentation focused on illustrating personalized rehabilitation for patients with the two most common neurological diseases in older adults: stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
A notable feature of this research consortium is that it relies not only on standard therapy but also on individually tailored training in which patients learn to actively influence their movement patterns. Visitors to Scientifica had the opportunity to experience various aspects of this innovative therapy through simulations.
The interactive exhibit comprised four areas:
- Personalized measurements: Precise gait analysis using artificial intelligence was presented here.
- Neurofeedback: The opportunity to actively modulate brain signals to steer a moving robot.
- Consolidation: A look at how brain signals are recorded during a “sleep challenge,” along with simulations of the methods used.
- Adaptation: Detecting pathological gait in order to provide feedback for improving walking.
INTeRCePT: “Targeted Treatment for Blood Cancer Patients”
Prof. Dr. med. Thorsten Zenz, Senior Physician in Medical Oncology & Hematology at the University Hospital Zurich, presented the research project INTeRCePT.

Panel Discussion: “My Data in Medicine – What Can It Achieve, and Why Should I Share It?”
The LOOP Zurich, and specifically its biomedical informatics platform, was also the topic of a panel discussion that shed light on the role of patient data in medical research. The discussion offered insights into the growing importance of data and digitalization in modern medicine. Experts discussed the motivations and concerns patients may have about providing their personal data for research.
