Second Call for The LOOP Zurich Platform Projects

Through The LOOP Zurich Platform Projects, funding is awarded for the further development of the LOOP Zurich BioMedical Informatics Platform (LOOP BMIP). The LOOP BMIP consolidates clinical data from the four Zurich university hospitals and will be accessible to researchers at The LOOP Zurich partner institutions starting in Q3 2026.

Platform Projects are intended to expand the LOOP BMIP with new and complementary data types (e.g., omics, imaging, or real-time data) and/or advanced analytical tools (e.g., AI-based). The goal is to make data from different sources interoperable and reusable (in line with FAIR/SPHN standards), thereby enabling new insights into disease progression as well as better diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Eligible applicants are groups of typically 2–4 researchers (single groups are also possible) with complementary expertise in biomedicine, clinical research, and data science/engineering. The PI and co-PIs must be employed at a LOOP Zurich partner institution (ETH Zurich, UZH, USZ, Balgrist, University Children’s Hospital Zurich, PUK Zurich). External collaborations are possible where local expertise is lacking (max. 20% of funds).

The LOOP Platform Projects receive up to CHF 500,000 for a duration of 2 to 3 years. Funding covers personnel, material, and selected infrastructure costs (PI/co-PI salaries are excluded).
