Our Co-Director Giatgen Spinas is being appointed Honorary Councillor in recognition of, among other things, his contributions to a modern and excellent medical education program at ETH.
Prof. Dr. Detlef Günther, Vice President for Research at ETH Zurich, summarized Giatgen Spinas’s achievements:
“Thanks to his commitment and his tireless mediation between the various medical faculties, it became possible to establish the Bachelor’s degree program in Human Medicine at ETH Zurich. Combined with the Master’s program at the Università della Svizzera italiana, which most ETH students attend, Giatgen Spinas played a key role in creating a modern and excellent education program that has since become a very successful and popular medical degree program in Switzerland.
“In recent years, Giatgen Spinas’s dedicated efforts have enabled the development of accredited postgraduate and continuing medical education courses at ETH in collaboration with the Swiss Institute for Postgraduate and Continuing Medical Education. Aspiring physicians can now complement their specialist training with clinical research.
“This step brings research and education closer together and will help prepare a new generation of physicians for future developments in medical research and technology. In addition to his commitment to teaching and continuing education, Giatgen Spinas has played a key role in establishing and further developing The LOOP Zurich as a new translational research center focused on precision medicine.”
